Tokyo 2020 Olympics which was postponed due to the pandemic of year 2020 will kick off on Friday with Quadri Aruna, leading Team Nigeria.

Although Nigerian U-23 football team will be missing in action, the country is well represented in other events such as Table tennis, Basketball, Track and fields event and so on.

Quadri Aruna, who is the Team Nigeria captain, is one of the hopes of the most populous black nation going to the Olympics.

Here are 10 Things To Know About Quadri Aruna;

  1. Quadri Aruna was born on the 9th of August, 1988 in Oyo State.
  2. He is a Nigerian table tennis player that has competed for Nigeria at the 2012 summer olympics and 2016 summer olympics.
  3. Aruna is a member of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
  4. He is also married to a tennis player.
  5. He came into limelight after representing his college, Oba Adeyemi High School, Oyo State. He also represented his local government and Oyo State in table tennis competitions.
  6. Aruna was part of the Nigerian team that won bronze in table tennis at the 2014 commonwealth games.
  7. At club level, he represents Sporting CP.
  8. He reached the quarter final of the 2016 summer olympics which is his best ever yet for Nigeria.
  9. Aruna Quadri, is now the highest-rated African tennis player. The Nigerian has been seeded number 15 among the players in the men’s singles competition of the table tennis event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
  10. In 2018, Aruna won the outstanding Sportsman of the year award at the Nigerian Sports Award.
