Ogun State is a state in southwestern Nigeria. Created in February 1976 from the former Western State.

Ogun State borders Lagos State to the south, Oyo State and Osun State to the north, Ondo State, and the Republic of Benin to the west.

Abeokuta is both Ogun State’s capital and most populous city; other important cities in the state include Ijebu Ode, the former royal capital of the Ijebu Kingdom, and Sagamu, Nigeria’s leading kola nut grower.

Ogun State had a total population of 3,751,140 residents as of 2006.

Nicknamed the “Gateway to Nigeria”, the state is notable for having a high concentration of industrial estates and being a major manufacturing hub in Nigeria.

Major factories in Ogun include the Dangote Cement factory in Ibese, Nestle, Lafarge Cement factory in Ewekoro, Memmcol in Orimerunmu, Coleman Cables in Sagamu and Arepo, Procter & Gamble in Agbara,amongst others.

Ogun State is predominantly Yoruba, with the Yoruba language serving as the lingua franca of the state. Ogun State is noted for being the almost exclusive site of Ofada rice production. Ogun state is also homed to so many icons in Nigeria and Africa at large.

BRIGADIER HARRIS O.D EGHAGHA

(JULY 1978 – OCTOBER 1979)

Brigadier General Harris Otadafevwerha Eghagha Was Born On 8 March 1934 In Mureje, Okpe Local Government Area In Delta State.

CHIEF VICTOR OLABISI ONABANJO

(OCT. 1979 – OCT. 1983)/(OCT. 1983 – DEC. 1983)

Chief Victor Olabisi Onabanjo Was Born On February 12, 1927. He Studied Journalism And Was An Accomplished Columnist For Many Years.

COLONEL OLADIPO DIYA

1984 -1985

Brigadier Oladipo Diya Was Born On The 3rd Of April, 1944 At Odogbolu In The Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area Of Ogun State.

LT COLONEL OLADAYO POPOOLA

(AUGUST 1985 – AUGUST 1986)

Lt Col. Popoola Was Born On 26 February 1944. He Completed His Secondary Education In Ikire, Osun State.

NAVY CPT. OLADEINDE OLUSOGA JOSEPH

The Military Governor Of Ogun State Was Born In Aramoko-Ekiti, Ekiti State, On May 9, 1948. He Had His Elementary Education At Methodist School II, Oke-Ado, Ibadan.

CHIEF OLUSEGUN OSOBA

(1992 – 1993)/(1999 – 2003)

Chief Olusegun Osoba Was Born On July 15, 1941. He Took Over The Mantle Of Leadership Of Ogun State On January 2, 1992.

LT COL. DANIEL OLUKUNLE AKINTONDE

(DECEMBER 18, 1993 – AUGUST 20, 1996)

He Was Born In Jos, Plateau State, On November21, 1949. Lt. Col. Daniel Olukunle Akintonde, The Ogun State Military Administrator Hails From Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

2003 -2011

Gbenga Daniel (Born 6 April 1956) Is A Nigerian Politician,And Governor Of Ogun State Of Nigeria Since 29 May 2003 – May 2011.

SENATOR IBIKUNLE AMOSUN

2011 – 2019

On 29 May, 2011, Senator Amosun Was Sworn-In As The Fourth Elected Governor Of Ogun State, Having Won The Election Held In April 2011.

2019 – TILL DATE

On 29 May 2019 Prince (Dr.) Dapo Abiodun MFR Was Sworn-In As The Fifth Elected Governor Of Ogun State, Having Won The Election Held On The 9th Of March 2019.
