Ogun State: Top 5 Nollywood Actors



There is an abundance of talented and veteran Nollywood actors who hailed from Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria.

Just as the ‘Gateway State‘ is known to be a pacesetter in politics and leadership in Nigeria, the state has produced icons in the film industry.

It is also the hometown of one of the Nigerian film founding fathers, Hubert Ogunde.

Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State has been one of the locations for filmmakers. The stars on TV born in different parts of the state has put Nigeria’s culture on the world map with their actions.

Here are Top 5 Nollywood Actors From Ogun State

  1. Olu Jacobs: Nollywood’s legendary actor, Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, better known as Olu Jacobs hails from Abeokuta, Ogun State. Olu Jacobs (79) has been hailed by many as one of the greatest and most widely respected African actors of his generation. The veteran actor who is married to Nollywood actress, Joke Silva, has starred in several British television series and international films. The multiple-award winning actor has featured in movies and plays such as ‘Black Man’s Country‘ (1974), ‘Ashanti’ (1979), ‘Pirates‘ (1986), ‘Oloibiri’ (2015), ‘Royal Hibiscus Hotel‘ (2017), and so on.
  2. Dele Odule: Nollywood’s veteran actor and producer, Dele Odule (61) is from Ogun State. The award-winning Yoruba actor hails from Oru Ijebu in Ijebu North LGA of Ogun State. He currently serves as the President of the Theatre Arts and Movie Practitioners Association of Nigeria. He made his debut appearance in 1986 before he was shot into the limelight after starring in the movie titled’Ti Oluwa Ni Ile’. He has since gone on to star in over 200 movies. Some of his top movies include, ‘Oduduwa‘ (2000), ‘Ogbologbo’ (2003), ‘The Ghost and The Tout’ (2018), ‘Survival of Jelili’ (2019), ‘The New Patriots’ (2020), and so on.
  3. Taiwo Hassan: Popularly known as ‘Ogogo‘, Taiwo Hassan is a top Yoruba Nollywood actor. He hails from Ilaro town in Ogun State. Ogogo began his acting career in 1981 shortly after he got a job at the water corporation as an auto mechanic. He has since featured in several Nollywood films and winning some industry awards.
  4. Yomi Fash-Lanso: One of Yoruba Nollywood’s finest, Yomi Fash-Lanso was born on June 7, 1968, in Ogun State Nigeria, as Oluyomi Fash Lanso. He acts mostly in Yoruba language films and has more than 100 films to his credit. He also has some industry awards to his name. Yomi Fash-Lanso featured in movies such as ‘Aje Metta‘, ‘Jenifa’, ‘Kadarami‘, ‘Omo Elesho’, ‘Dazzling Mirage’ and so on.
  5. Yemi Shodimu: Yemi Shodimu is a Nigerian dramatist, TV Presenter, director and Film maker. He was born on January 29 1960 in Abeokuta, Ogun State. He spent his early life in the capital city at the palace of Alake of Egbaland where he was exposed to the Yoruba culture. He began his acting career in 1976, the same year he featured in a movie titled Village Head Master. He also made name for himself when he starred in Tunde Kelani‘s ‘Oleku’ and ‘Saworo Ide’.
