Euro 2020: Best XI Players in Tournament So Far

The UEFA Euro 2020 is still in its quarter final stages. Although Italy and Spain have advanced into the semi-final stage of the question, the other two semi finalists would be decided later today as Czech Republic battles Denmark while England trade tackles with Andriy Shevchenko‘s Ukraine.

The 2020 edition of the UEFA national teams competition which was delayed due to the pandemic has seen established footballers in Europe making their countries proud.

Here are the selected best XI so far in the tournament;

  1. Gianluggi Donnarruma (Italy): Italy has conceded two goals and are one of the tournament’s favorites. Roberto Mancini’s team has performed well with their goalkeeper, Gianluggi Donnarruma commanding performance in between the goalpost. The PSG new signing along with Switzerland’s Sommer and England’s Jordan Pickford are the best goalies so far in the tournament.

  2. John Stones (England): England is yet to concede a goal in the tournament. Manchester City’s John Stones has been one of the Three Lions performer at the back. He has featured in all the matches as England aim to win the tournament this time.
  3. Giorgio Chiellini (Italy): No doubt, Azzuri‘s Giorgio Chiellini is one of the finest defenders in football today. The 36-years-old has helped to shut out teams alongside Juventus partner,Leonardo Bonnucci as center backs for the tournament’s favorites.

  4. Nicollo Barella (Italy): The Italian midfielder has built on his performance in the Italian Serie A league, where he was one of the standout performers of the season as Inter Milan was crowned champions. The midfield enforcer capped up his performance in the Euro 2020 with a fine goal that sent Belgium packing.
  5. Simon Kjaer (Denmark): Denmark’s captain, Simon Kjaer has been tipped as the tournament’s best player after his life-saving show for teammate, Christian Eriksen, in their opening match. He has backed up the praises with fine performances that has taken his team to the quarter finals.
  6. Emil Forsberg (Sweden): Sweden’s star man for the tournament has been RB Liepzig’s man, Emil Forsberg. The Swede has scored four goals for his national team. The last one coming in the knockout stage against Ukraine.
  7. Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal): One of the finest performer so far has been Portugal star man and captain, Cristiano Ronaldo who has 5 goals to his name. Although, Portugal is out of the competition, he still have the tournament’s golden boot in view. He also tied Ali Daei (Iran) as the highest goalscorer for a national team in football history (109) during the tournament.

  8. Romelu Lukaku (Belgium): Lukaku has led the line for the ‘Red Devils’ after a fine performance for Inter Milan in the 2020/21 season as they were crowned champions. The powerful Belgian has four goals to his name before they were booted out by Italy.
  9. Patrick Schick (Czech Republic): Czech Republic made it to the knockout stages of the competition due to the goals of Patrick Schick. The star striker has four goals to his name including a contender for the goal of the tournament against Scotland.
  10. Granit Xhaka (Switzerland): Tournament’s favorite, France were sent crashing following the heroic performance of the midfield man and captain, Granit Xhaka. The midfield enforcer also have 2 goals to his name before they lost out to Spain on penalty shootouts.
  11. Raheem Sterling (England): After a not-so-good season for club side, Manchester City, Raheem Sterling has been England’s best player has they aim to win the tournament. He has justified his selection by carrying the team on his back with three goals and fine performances.
