Bordeaux Releases Fresh Statement On Samuel Kalu’s Heart Condition After Collapse



French Ligue 1 club, Bordeaux, has released the latest update on their Nigerian player, Samuel Kalu, after he collapsed on the pitch against Olympique Marseille last weekend.

The Super Eagles player dropped to the ground five minutes into the game amid soaring temperature at the Shade Velodrome on Sunday August 15.

The incident sparked concern for Kalu as players from both sides called for medical attention and later formed a human shield around him.

Thankfully, the 23-year-old Nigerian made a quick recovery and was able to stand on his feet.

He was walked off the pitch by his teammates while holding an ice pack against his head but later returned to carry on playing before he was substituted for Remi Oudin.

Bordeaux issued a statement on Tuesday, confirming that the Nigerian midfielder is fine after tests showed he had no heart problem.

“More fear than loss for Samuel Kalu as our Nigerian international is fit to resume training on Wednesday.

“All the additional examinations carried out on Tuesday showed no cardiac abnormalities and Kalu should be in contention for Sunday’s home match against Angers” Bordeaux said on their website (
